Medical Interpreter Spanish

Location: Milwaukee, WI

To provide oral interpretation, sight translation, and possibly written translation services with the goal of facilitating prompt and accurate communication between patients, family members and providers at WFHC. To serve as a cultural broker when needed. To assist with other program needs.

Skills/Requirements

Associate Degree in Spanish or related field required . Bachelor Degree in Spanish Interpretation or related field, preferred. Completion of minimum of 40 hr medical interpretation training, preferred.
THIS IS AN ON-CALL/POOL POSITION

Possess strong written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish. Ability to recognize and understand both formal and idiomatic expressions in English and Spanish. Familiarity with cultural issues. Knowledge of medical terminology in both languages.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, their families and health care providers.
Knowledge and understanding of interpreter code of ethics and standards of practice.
Ability to perform under stressful situations and medical emergencies.

This position requires frequent travel throughout the city of Milwaukee metro area and Racine, including possible home visits. Must possess a valid WI Driver's license, auto insurance and reliable transportation.

Condition of Hire: Successful completion of an interpreter skills assessment, as determined by WFHC.
