Paramedic Specialist

Location: Waterloo, IA

Responds to ambulance calls and provides advanced patient care. Directs cares and provides guidance at scene. Performs vehicle maintenance and assists in the Emergency Room. Adheres to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare.

Skills/Requirements

Worksite: Covenant Medical Center, Sartori Memorial Hospital, and Mercy Hospital in Oelwein.
Graduate of a Iowa Paramedic Specialist Course or National Paramedic Course.
Minimum of 1-year ambulance experience preferred.
Intermediate language, high math, high reasoning ability.
Personal computer.
Ability to work with diverse group of people; ability to convey a positive image and build positive relationships with others; ability to work under pressure. Must pass pre-hire physical agility test.
Current Iowa Chauffeur's license, BLS provider, ACLS, certified Iowa EMT-PS, PALS required; PHTLS highly recommended. Critical Care Paramedic course completion required within two years of hire for full time staff. Mandatory Reporter.
Bloodborne pathogen hazard to eyes, hands and torso; gas, vapors , fumes and blood/body fluid hazard to respiratory, driving hazards.
Goggles, face shield, latex gloves, nitrile gloves, impervious gown, impervious N95 mask, surgical mask, isolation mask, earmuffs, seat belt.
Physical demands are very heavy with frequent lifting, pushing and pulling required for over 50 lbs.; requires ability to be awake and alert for over 24 hours at times; frequent standing, walking and sitting; frequent fine motor skills, frequent both handedness and either handedness; requires 20/20 near and far vision, color discrimination and accurate depth perception, moderate hand/wrist repetitions.
Patient Population: Neonate to geriatric patients.
